We all know the things we going to see in the new year all around us, they’ll be people looking at the bank accounts and weeping, celebrities trying to flog their latest workout DVDs and lots of commercials for half price furniture and holidays. By January most of us are overweight and broke thanks to having a little too much fun over the holidays. This would be why every one is after an easy option to loose weight quickly as soon as it’s time for the New Years resolutions. Below is a quick look at the more common weight loss ideas that have been labelled as fads.
The power plate is the latest weight loss equipment fad and everyone from Madonna to Donatella Versace swears by it. The muscles are exposed to thousands of tiny vibrations every minute which causes them to contract. The contracting muscles become toned and stronger which is theory is meant to lead to weight loss. These vibration plates started being used by Russian cosmonauts and ballerinas decades ago to make their muscles stronger and the science does seem to work.
Hypnosis like the vibration exercise is another one that’s seen as a fad. There isn’t as much science behind this one. Technically speaking it’s not the hypnosis that controls calorie intake nor does it actually burn any calories. This process is meant to work by rewiring the brain not to desire food. Although some people swear by this method but it could simply be explained by mind over matter.
When it comes to fad diets there are millions but the Atkins diet and other low carb version seem to have been the most popular. The weight is supposedly lost through eliminating carbohydrates like bread and pasta from your regular diet. The science says that these carbohydrates are what the body normally turns to fat and everything else goes to fuel. Although this diet is reported to work very well, it’s like all diets in that as soon as you go back to easting normally the weight climbs back on.
