<p>Right out of the blocks, let’s establish the fact that dieting shouldn’t really be necessary. Unfortunately, primarily because of what we consider a normal intake of food, going on a diet has become all too prevalent these days.</p>
</p>
<p>We are bombarded on all sides by a tidal wave of advertising promoting foods that, for the most part, aren’t very good for us. We don’t get the nutrition we need on a daily basis and instead take to snacking on food items that are basically worthless.</p>
</p>
<p>Nature never intended for us to eat the way the majority of the population does. Nature intended that our food intake be laden with fruits, nuts and vegetables, not Big Macs and Whoppers. By largely turning our backs on what we should eat, we increase the chance that we’ll feel hungry more often, a result, in part, of not consuming those foods that contribute to our nutritional makeup.</p>
</p>
<p>The epidemic of obesity, especially among the young, is truly a tragedy. Obesity leads to myriad health problems and diminishes the general quality and joy of life. All of us need to think less of dieting and more of consuming the right foods that will genuinely nourish us and help us fight the urge to eat more and more all the time. If dieting is truly necessary because of health concerns, make sure you diet sensibly. <p>Take stock of your eating regimen. Be honest with yourself about what you shop for and wind up putting on the table. Make a conscious effort to stock your refrigerator and cupboards with food that will benefit you.</p>

<p>Too often when we go on a diet we set the bar too high and impose goals on ourselves that are unrealistic. This course of action is a recipe for failure. It’s important to realize that cutting just one hundred odd calories a day from your diet can result in substantial weight loss over the period of twelve months and will also result in a decrease in body fat.</p>
</p>
<p>Now admittedly most dieters want faster results than that, but you need to realize that you have to be comfortable with the level of discipline you establish. If you’ve decided to cut your normal food intake in half, for example, that plan probably doesn’t have a realistic chance of succeeding because you’ll be constantly in discomfort fighting hunger pains and yearning for more food intake.</p>
</p>
<p>If you’re part of the population that is obese, remember that it took a long time to get that way, and it’s going to take a similar amount of time to undo the damage. Even if you’re only moderately overweight, there is still a relatively lengthy time frame involved.</p>
</p>
<p>So develop a plan that gradually sheds pounds with the ultimate aim of keeping them off permanently. A sensible way to go about this is to slightly reduce the portions of the food you eat. If you eat three meals a day, plan to reduce the caloric content in each of those meals by around thirty to forty units. That will get you one hundred calories or slightly more per day.</p>
</p>
<p>Drink more water between meals. That will help you feel a little more full and reduce those cravings that lead to snacking between meals. Eat foods higher in nutritional value than you’ve been accustomed to.</p>
</p>
<p>The important thing to remember is that the old saying ‘everything in moderation’ refers to achieving weight loss as well as most everything else. Rapid weight loss is not necessarily the way to go unless there are serious health issues involved with not losing weight fast.</p>
</p>
<p>We’re all aware that most people who go on diets, especially those that aim to lose weight quickly, wind up failing. If you don’t want to be in that group, take it slow and easy. Make sure that your weight loss plan is one that you can comfortably handle without having to grit you teeth against hunger pains everyday.</p>
</p>
<p>It’s equally important to set goals for every week that you plan to diet. For example, using the one hundred calorie daily elimination plan, use readily available charts to determine just how much weight you should lose weekly and stick with it. Tape a chart to your refrigerator and keep it current. When you can physically see the progress you’re making, you’ll be much more likely to stick with the program.</p>
</p>
<p>As you lose weight, another good tip is to periodically purchase a new wardrobe in successively smaller sizes. You don’t want to waste all that money, so that will provide an additional incentive to keep that weight off.</p>

<p>We all have certain talents. My sister always beats me in air-hockey, my hairdresser is very talented at small-talking and finding the best haircut. The ladies in Hollywood are very talented at chewing lettuce or whatever it is tey are doing to stay thin.</p>
<p>I also have talents but chewing lettuce is unfortunately not one of them. I have always thought of dieting and starvation as two words meaning the same thing. To starve and to torment oneself is necessary and the feeling of hunger is just a receipt that the diet is working.</p>
<p>The hunger and the sweet-tooth makes me snap at the children and hissing at the poor cashier at the grocery store. It is just downright impossible to answer a simple question right. While dieting I&#8217;m dog-tired, feels like a hangover after a marathon at the local bar.</p>

<p>Habits are a good thing as long as they help you reach your goals. Unfortunately in many areas of life you may have developed some habits that do not benefit you. Since we are dealing with dieting and weight loss here we will focus on habits that make it more difficult to reach your dieting goals.</p>
<p>Maybe you can identify with this habit – watching TV or movies for hours. Wow, how that just does not help you build up muscle but instead leads to lose of muscle. Muscle loss further slows your body’s metabolism which reduces your bodies ability to burn fat.</p>
<p>Now do you just sit there or do you eat while you watch. You know the munchies, something to keep your fingers busy and your jaw a chewing! Yea, well that is another habit that does not lead to further weight loss.</p>
<p>You likely have other habits that will limit your fat loss goals also. If you stop and think about it for a few moments you can probably put your finger on at least one or two more areas that your habits control. You say you do not have these habets, then think for a minute and you will discover a couple of your own habits that limit your weight loss goals.</p>
<p>These types of habits are major road blocks when it comes to losing weight. When you start the diet you have some initial will power and you do okay for a short period of time. But soon those habits get in the way again.</p>
<p>To be honest with you this is probably the biggest reason diets fail. Yes diets usually fail because of you! Bummer, the truth about yourself does not always make you feel better does it.</p>
<p>The biggest challenge is finding a system that can help you achieve your goals but even beyond that you may find that you need help with bigger issues like making mental changes that can lead to new habits.</p>
