Using Intuitive Eating In Your Regular Lifestyle
Posted by: HealthyGirl / Category: Weight LossIn certain parts of the Web, intuitive eating has a little bit of a bad rap. I’ve studied all sorts of things and quite often need to hold myself back from getting up on my soap box whenever I see a lot of the things people claim. As a person whose entire life has been improved from the process of intuitive eating, it can be challenging to not be defensive and a preacher. Nonetheless, there are actually several points I’d like to clarify.
#1. Intuitive eating isn’t an excuse to overindulge!
I discovered this the long, hard, gained-an-extra-40-pounds way. Straight up. Yes, it’s correct that you’ll go through a period of legalizing foods that were in the past forbidden however that is not the permission to stuff yourself. Binging is an escape from feelings, and intuitive eating is just the opposite of that. There is a huge difference between binging and eating for enjoyment. In the event you find out that you’re using intuitive eating as a permission to binge, it could be a signal that you have a lot more work to do in the emotional eating arena.
#2. Intuitive eating isn’t anti-(insert some type of food lifestyle here)!
Becoming an intuitive eater will not signify you cannot be gluten free, dairy free, vegan, high raw, or whatever. In fact, I believe that every one of us needs to experience all kinds of eating styles to find the one that works for us.
I really don’t think that one approach to eating will work for everybody. We are all individuals, and as individuals we need to discover a method that helps to keep us both physically and mentally satisfied. Intuitive eating is all about eliminating those requirements that surround the “hardcore” way of thinking about these kinds of lifestyles, though. It’s about making the choice to respect your own body’s needs; this is particularly true with regards to intuitive eating and health issues. And, additionally, opinions are like, well you know, so be your own leader in your food selections and keep in mind that you can eat anything that feels suitable for you personally, physically, spiritually, morally, and mentally.
#3. Intuitive eating is not permission to eat anything you would like!
I think that is the biggest misconception out there regarding intuitive eating. Yes, part of intuitive eating is about legalizing foods however it is not permission to consume whatever you want, whenever you want.
It is about being attentive to your body, and not your mind.
So many people have trouble with recognizing the difference and until you do, intuitive eating will not work for you.
Each and every person on this planet has the ability to be attentive to their body, I do not think that any of us are so far gone that we cannot get that back. Will it take some time and a commitment to yourself like no diet program does? Absolutely. In an effort to heal your relationship with food, you must be ready to “go there” and truly learn to believe in yourself and your body in order to make the best choices.
Body. Not Mind.
The road to intuitive eating is individual and what works for me might not give good results for you however that does not mean that the bottom line principle of listening to your body won’t.
