Weight Loss Diet Paired with Exercise Makes Big Difference
Posted by: HealthyGirl / Category: Weight LossCombining a reasonable exercise program with a good weight loss diet is the secret to boosting metabolism and improving your life. This article will review the reasons for this convincing combination.
Overweight people are prone to medical problems. It has been reported that about 300,000 people die each year due to weight or obesity related complications. This refers to people from a cross section of the community who have a BMI or body mass index of 25-29 which to many experts is considered overweight.
Obesity now affects over 25% of the US population and more and more people are realizing that obesity kills. TV portrays overweight people as odd and idealizes the thin person.
Obesity is brought about by a number of causes. A primary cause of obesity is eating more calories than you burn. Eating more calories than you use results in excess fat, often accumulating in the abdominal area.
A significant number of overweight people really do not eat to excess, but instead have a genetically slow metabolism. For most overweight people, their excess weight comes from both a slower metabolism and a lifestyle with very little movement. In the US, a lot of people live a sedentary life because of using their automobiles even for relatively small distances. This is where combining a sound exercise regime with a well planned weight loss diet can make a big difference.
A few lucky people can eat what they want and never gain weight, but the vast majority of us need to jump start our metabolism with exercise.
Now, you might think that cardiovascular exercise is an important part of raising your metabolism; and you’d be right! Provided that, of course, your qualified doctor confirms that you’re able to start a program of cardiovascular exercise, this is indeed the place to start. Increasing heart rate, blood circulation, body temperature, and oxygen intake/carbon dioxide exchange all send messages to the system to initiative catabolism (breaking down cells and using them for energy.
But even though aerobic exercise is a great place to start, it is only the beginning. No! Far too many people incorporate aerobic exercise into their life but they don’t take it to the next step.
Not because they’re lazy; but because, frankly, they don’t know that there is significantly more that they can do in their home gym, or at the fitness club, that will boost their metabolism even more potently.
Here I will cover what the added moves could mean to them.
Shape Muscle
Many people – particularly some women – are very leery about undertaking any exercise regimen that can lead to muscle building. The old perception was that muscle building leads to muscle bulking, and before long, gorging forearm veins and other unwanted results.
This shouldn’t be an issue since it just doesn’t happen. Unless a woman is taking special muscle-enhancing supplements, she shouldn’t have an issue with bulking up.
So why should people incorporate muscle building? Isn’t cardiovascular exercising the one thing that makes a difference? Again, the answer is: No! In addition to a healthy and responsible cardiovascular program, muscle building is an exceptionally powerful way to boost metabolism.
Why? Its simple, muscle uses more calories than fat. So what? It means (and get ready to stare in awe) that if you have more muscle on your body – anywhere on your body – you will simply burn more calories as a result. You don’t even have to do anything. You’ll simply burn more calories, because muscle simply requires more of an energy investment. But this new muscle does take some maintenance to keep it from turning back into fat. But that’s no problem, because all you need to do is build and maintain healthy muscle.
The important thing for you to remember is that once you start building muscle – through any kind of strength training – your body will itself start burning more calories. Ride in the car and burn more calories. Its like stoking a fire that then keeps burning stronger.
You might have some excess weight now, but don’t let that stop you from buidling muscle. Still keep up the cardiovascular movement since it burns the extra fat you may be carrying. But muscle building plays a critically supportive role in that effort. And the process builds like a snowball – the more muscle you build, the more fat you burn.
