There is lot of rumours floating around regarding routines and exercise flat stomach. The good news is that only 3 basic exercises can actually give you the desired results. Is it really true, you will ask? This is majorly because the abdomen area is divided into three regions, that are the upper abdomen, lower abdomen and the obliques. Hence, each of the three routines concentrates on a particular abdominal area for the maximum impact.

For the upper abs, the vital exercise is the basic crunch. You start from a lying position with your hands at the back of your head or crossed in front of your chest. Then you ought to bend your knees and place your feet firmly on the floor. Now from here start raising your upper body from your shoulders closer towards your knees, that should remain steady. After that you need to reverse the procedure by moving down your back towards the ground and lie back in the starting position. Repeat this cycle for 20-30 times, take a break and start the crunch again.

For the next crunch, lie on your back with your legs slightly raised above the ground, from the lower hip. From this position, bring your knees towards your chest slowly without raising your upper body. Breathe in while you get into this position. Then, contract your ab muscles and slowly get the legs back to the initial position. Slowly breathe out on your way down. Repeat this for about 15-30 times for a set depending on your stamina. After a break, try again.

For your obliques or love handles, lie flat on your back taking the same starting position as you did for basic crunch routine. From here, place your left foot over the right knee. While keeping both your hands on your head, turn to the left in an attempt to bring the right elbow towards your left knee. In this manner a curling motion is formed that contracts the side abdominal muscles and works nicely on your love handles.
